THE Scandinavian Cultural Foundation

The Junction City Scandinavian Festival was established in 1961 by the Scandinavian Festival Association (SFA). The Association was made up of a Board of Directors and operated solely by volunteers. These passionate folks spend many vacation hours, off time, and everything in between to work year-round to ensure the Scandinavian Festival continues.

In 2012, the Scandinavian Cultural Foundation (SCF) was created to preserve Scandinavian culture in our local community and create educational opportunities for the public. The Foundation has been pivotal in its role and hosts events throughout the year, many of which are for youth and usually free or low-cost.

A few years later, the Junction City Scandinavian Festival and the Scandinavian Cultural Foundation had the opportunity to merge into one entity. The two organizations with one common goal only made sense, and in 2024 they consolidated under the name Scandinavian Cultural Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Annual events, especially one large event, such as the Junction City Scandinavian Festival takes many hands to keep it going.  With this partnership, the mission to create educational opportunities, provide free Scandinavian and Nordic events for the public has strengthened.

The Foundation hopes to provide opportunities for all community members. New volunteers are always welcome. Free folk dance groups are available to all, and many are year-round. Please check out the dance page to find a group that may fit you or your children. Keeping the Scandinavian history of our town alive through events, dance, food, and community is possible and such a fun project.
